I’m not sure I can even put into words how awesome this duo is. They are completely changing the way house music is made with fresh sounds and funk. Party Pupils are a name that will surely be on everyone’s lips in the coming months. I had a chance to talk with the guys, here’s what Ryan and Max had to say:
For people who have never heard of Party Pupils, how would you describe your music?
R: Future Funk! It’s a genre we find ourselves in with a few other electronic/funk artists that we look up to and we thoroughly enjoy.
Can you talk to me what’s going through your head when you’re making music?
R: That’s quite a compliment, thank you. We truly make the music we want to hear and listen to. It’s made for dancing, for celebrating, and overall having fun in whatever capacity. As I like to say, “It’s gotta be funky or it’s gotta go.” For us it will always be about groove.
M: Indeed thank you! We try to focus on a lyric that we feel like we haven’t heard in quite the same way and groove and pocket that just gets you moving.
If you could only choose one song to play for someone, which one would you choose?
R: We have a few originals coming out this year that I think truly sum up what we’re about. We just put out our first original called “Patient” which I think is a good representation of us in a lot of ways as well.
M: Agree “Patient” I think represents us well. Of course the “Ms Jackson” remake was our first release and still also very much represents our style.
Which remix are you most proud of?
R: That’s tough because we really put everything we got into each one. I think our remix of Captain Cuts’ “Love Like We Used To” might be my personal fav still. Or “Like It’s Over” by Jai Wolf. That one was our first official remix and we are HUGE fans of him, so that’s really special to me.
M: Yeah for sure both of those are top of my list as well. Definitely always love playing our “In Da Club” remix live too.
What’s your plan for the rest of the year?
R: Lots of shows and new music. We have some really cool stuff planned to finish out 2017, but 2018 is going to be wild, I assure you.
M: Tons of new music for sure. Really just trying to bring all of our videos, shows, and music to that next level or funkiness and outrageousness in the most authentic way to our love for what we’re creating.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
R: We just had this discussion last night on a long ride home from JFK airport! We want to be headlining Red Rocks in Colorado. Honestly that’s the goal, among many others. I think if we can do that in 5 years, that will make us very happy campers.
M: Yeah I think we both agreed early on that this project wasn’t about making tons of money or having billions of streams but more so creating an experience musically and show wise that we believe in and being able to share that with huge live crowds down the line. We never want to sacrifice the integrity. We both came from worlds of making that mistake a few times and have learned a lot from those experiences.
You’re trapped on a deserted island, what three things are you bringing with you?
