SeeB Interview

You may have not taken a pill in Ibiza, but I guarantee you have heard of the guys who made that song a smash! SeeB changed the pop music landscape last year when they remixed Mike Posner’s melancholy ballad to an uptempo dance banger. Since then, they’ve been releasing fire originals (for those of you who follow the site constantly, you’ve seen them regularly). Let’s see what the guys had to say when I talked with them.

For someone who’s never heard your music, how would you describe it?
Well we would say it´s electronic, dancey but often laid-back, colorful, melodic and vocal based. Difficult to put it into a genre perhaps as we might do a pure house track one day and tropical house the next.

Your first international hit was remixing Mike Posner’s “I Took A Pill in Ibiza,” what about that song appealed to you?
It was the melody and the lyric. Also the fact that it was in a traditional singer-songwriter style. That tempted us to try to move it into a different direction that would give the lyric a bigger impact as he was singing about his old life as an electronic pop artist in a slightly ironic way. In that it made sense to give it a tropical and melancholic vibe as it would amplify the message in the lyrics more than a straight-forward singer-songwriter, guitar picking vibe.

Despite your wealth of remixes, your original songs are picking up traction. Is there a different approach when making a remix vs. making an original?
Not really. We always start with a melody focus. Most times with writing simple melodies with vocal and a very basic bed of electronic sounds or maybe even a piano. Once we are happy with the way the melodies are moving we start to “produce” the song and figure out where it should go. It is in some ways similar to doing a remix. We always try to work with talented writers and vocalists as we sound pretty bad when singing ourselves 🙂

If you could have any vocalist be on a track who would it be?
We have different opinions on this one as we all have our favorites but to name a few of them it would be Justin Timberlake, Luke Steele (Empire of the sun), Bruno Mars, Ellie Goulding and Becky Hill. We really enjoy working with voices that stand out and sound special. As it is we have been fortunate already to have worked with people like Mike (Posner), Ryan Tedder and Chris Martin.

What song of yours represents you the most?
At the moment it would be Breathe. It represents us in the way it is both emotional and energetic at the same time.

What are your plans for the rest of the year?
Work, work and work. We are working on an EP that will be released in the fall, releasing a few new songs this summer and playing gigs and festivals all over, especially this summer. In the fall we are planning to see if we can visit South-America, that would be amazing.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be? Why?
It would have been time travel. Imagine to travel into the future and get to listen to all that crazy music being made, maybe you could even hook up your brain directly to a computer and work straight from the brain itself. Then steal one of these machines and teleport back to present time 🙂

Anything else you’d like to add?
We would like to thank everybody for listening to our music and we hope to see you soon at a show somewhere. And have a great summer!
